Hey, I know that I haven't been on here in FOREVER, let alone post something, but I'd like to share a few ideas about the Odyssey. I recently began reading it for a humanities course that I'm taking, originally it was just to get the required credit out of the way but after the first day of class I knew that I was going to enjoy the class! Honestly it kinda reminded me of Mr. Nelson's Creative Writing class which brought me back to this blog.
Anyway, back to the Odyssey. For those of you who don't know, the Odyssey is a Greek story that follows what happened to a man named Odysseus after the Trojan War. Odysseus was actually the soldier who devised the plot of the wooden horse that won the Greeks the war. But the fatal flaw of this hero was that he professed to the gods that he, a man and mortal, had won the war and had not needed the help of the gods. As you can imagine this ticked off some of the gods, Poseidon in particular, and when you need to sail home, it's usually not a good idea to anger the god of the sea. The Odyssey is the story of his ten year return to his home land Ithaca.

But depsite his past troubbles he had a basic normal life- the life of a normal kid- untill tha tfateful May afternoon that changed his life. He found the journal- his journal- from 2 years in the future! As he reads over his life that will soon be he realizes that he is about to live a crucial point that the journal will not name. Only that it happened on August 18 2011. It would happen in 3 months...

How did this journal come to be?
What is the event?
How sill him knowing about it effect his future self?

Just the Girl- Click 5

She ignores him. He follows her. She laughs at his face. He dreams of her laughter. She pushes him in the pool. He serenades her that night. Is he crazy? Yeah. A masochist? Probably. Is he persistent? Oh yeah! But he doesn't care. He continue to try and wear her down, because she is just the girl he’s been looking for, his perfect match. Too bad she doesn't see it…

She deserved more than his lies, his mistakes, the life he was doomed to live. But still he can’t help remember the memories that he doesn’t want to lose. The happy memories, the ones of her. Sadly she deserves better, he mourns, “better than me…”

I’m Just the Girl Next Door- Saving Jane

All my life I've been out-shinned, was never quite as good. She is beautiful, smart, talented and popular. I'm average, casual, quirky, and rough around the edges. The teachers love her, parents love her and i'm pretty sure my boyfriend wants to date her. I'll never have the happily ever after with her leading on all the princes! I'll always be the ordinary unexciting girl next door.

Jealousy

What am I jealous of? Maya Angelou. Why? Because of the passion. Because of the flow. Because she wrote what she did under the glare of prosecution.
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

She was a black women who wasn't scared to hide her opinion. She was a brash, bold, and powerful in her writing.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?

She wrote poetry, but for a purpose. But not only was it incredible but poetic. Her flow is inspiring to me.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

So all in all, more than jealous, I'm inspired by her intensity.
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Still I Rise, my inspiration by Maya Angelou
